I researched a lot before buying these shoes, as I do for all products I get, because I want to get the best value for the money. Make sure you check online for good materials and construction of these types of shoes so that you're knowledgeable before buying!
First off, I want to say these shoes were a great deal! For some reason, when I was purchasing (and still now), different sizes and different color combination are a different cost! So check around! I got them in Black, size 8.5D (even though I'm size 9D) for $30 with Free Shipping! I really wanted the royal blue color but that was twice the price!
These shoes were great because they had a calf-skin leather upper. This is supposed to provide great touch/feel on the ball for control and is only second to the much more expensive Kangaroo leather. Note that leather is more durable and since it's natural, it has a slight elasticity to it, so it will stretch over time to fit your foot. Make sure to get a tight fit; like I said before, I got size 8.5D and it fit my size 9D foot fine and almost feels loose after several times using it because of it's elasticity.
The laces are asymmetrical, so there's more of a contact area for the ball. I don't really feel it's significant, but it can't hurt.
They are firm ground shoes (though marketed as "multi-ground"), so they are good all-terrain shoes (soft, firm, and hard natural ground). Since the studs are plastic and not rubber, it'd be awkward using them on the street, but it's doable. Beware the wear you put on the plastic on really hard un-natural grounds like streets/asphalt, etc.
Another thing I really wanted was round studs versus bladed studs. I read that they provide slightly more versatility, and since I wanted just one pair of shoes and not many for different ground types, I really wanted round studs. They work great on the field/pitch.
Some complaints:
I initially thought that the velcro lace-flap would be better than lace-flaps with the wrap-around elastic band, since I figured the band would have a higher chance of breaking and then be useless. Unfortunately, the velcro is really annoying since it catches on the laces and it's a small patch. So I think this damages the laces and it doesn't really stay down when your laces are tied. Note: all the pictures you see out there of these types of shoes DON'T have the laces tied. Thus, I recommend that potential buyers try on these shoes in the store to see how they fit and how the laces are under flaps. In my experience of using these shoes over the past 6 months, the laces come loose very easily (due to a lot of foot tackle action compared to regular sneakers). A friend told me to tie the laces around the bottom of the shoes and that seems to work really well. But... this makes it kind of similar to the lace-flaps with wrap-around elastic bands I previously mentioned. Maybe it's not so bad, only time will tell.
Other comments:
Overall, a great value for the price, and very comparable to "higher-end," more expensive shoes out there. You can use these shoes for a lot of things, basically anything outdoors! I've had friends use cleats for paintball, mowing the lawn, and soccer/football of course.
